Having started sending many of our clients through Doha on Qatar Airways, as well as utilising they code share status with BA our of Inverness, I wanted to confirm for myself that Doha was in every bit as good as Dubai or Abu Dhabi for a short stopover, or even a holiday destination in ints own right.
I stayed in Doha for three days, and as well as the Hilton, I stayed at the Ritz Carlton.
This article focusses on my experience at the Hilton, and if you want to read about the RC, you can find that here.
Location
Hilton Doha The Pearl is nestled in the upscale Pearl-Qatar, an artificial island just off the coast of Doha. This area exudes luxury, with its gleaming high-rise buildings, pristine marina, and boutique shopping destinations. Getting there from the airport is pretty straightforward—it took just under 30 mins each way, although I was travelling at a pretty quiet time (2am and 5:30am respectviely). If you’re using a private transfer or taxi, it’s a smooth ride, and the hotel is easily reachable by major roadways. It it worth noting that you cannot ail a rideshare from the airport, although they are otherwise readily available throughout the rest of Doha.
The surrounding area is spotless and the Pearl is one of the most elite spots in Doha, so the neighbourhood is full of ritzy cafés, high-end restaurants, and beautiful promenades. You get that ‘premium resort’ feel before you even step foot inside the hotel.
First Impression
Upon arrival, the Hilton Doha The Pearl makes a stunning first impression. The building itself is sleek, modern, and commands a strong presence in the skyline. At night, it’s well-lit and almost glows, standing out among its neighbours.
Walking into the lobby, you’re greeted by luxurious, contemporary décor—think marble floors, artistic light fixtures, and a subtle fragrance wafting through the air. The flower arrangements are fresh and grand, adding a pop of colour to the elegant surroundings. The doormen, security, and lobby staff are quick to acknowledge you, with smiles and professional greetings. They come across as attentive and polished, ready to make your stay seamless.
Property Itself
Hilton Doha The Pearl boasts 414 rooms and suites, offering views over the sea, marina, or the island. There are multiple dining options, from high-end restaurants to casual bars. The hotel features a full-service spa, outdoor pool with views of the Gulf, and a well-equipped gym that should meet any fitness enthusiast’s needs. If you’re looking to unwind, the spa has a variety of treatments to choose from, all in a very tranquil setting.
Entertainment-wise, it’s more of a laid-back vibe. There isn’t a nightclub, but there are chill lounges and outdoor areas to relax in. By the pool, you’ll find a swim-up bar where you can sip cocktails while soaking up the sun. In the evenings, the area transforms into a romantic, candle-lit space, perfect for unwinding after a day of sightseeing or meetings.
Check-In Process
Check-in was a breeze, especially at 2am! After a walk through a metal detector, the staff at the reception were friendly and efficient, offering welcome drinks as they completed the formalities. The check-in process was quick, and there was no hassle in getting to the room.
As a Hhonors diamond member, I had hoped for a cheeky upgrade, however as I was already booked into the highest category one-bedroom suite, there wasn’t really anywhere for them to put me.
Rooms
I stayed in one of the superior one-bed suites with a marina view. The room was spotless and had a very polished, minimalist design—clean lines, neutral tones, and floor-to-ceiling windows allowing plenty of natural light. The bed was a king-size with crisp, white linens. The pillows were just the right balance of firm and fluffy, so no complaints there.
Housekeeping did an excellent job keeping the room tidy, with a turndown service in the evening. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and was easy to control through a digital panel. As for the other room amenities—there was a Nespresso machine, complimentary water, and fast, free Wi-Fi. The room also had a large flat-screen TV with a good selection of international channels. There was a balcony attached with stunning views over the marina—perfect for enjoying a morning coffee.
The living area boasted a dining table which could seat up to 4, a coffee table and sofa & chairs. There was a further dining table on the balcony. The living areas was a very decent size, and the kitchenette was well-appointed.
There was also a utility room with washing machine. Unfortunately there were no complimentary detergent pods etc which would have been a nice touch.
The kitchen had everything you could possible need, including double oven, hob, fridge and freezer, coffee machine, kettle and dishwasher. Also no washing up liquid or dishwasher tabs.
There is also a small separate toilet.
In terms of smaller details, the robes and slippers were plush, the wooden hangers were plentiful, and the sockets were conveniently located near the bed.
Bathrooms
The bathroom was spacious and elegant, if starting to show its age a little. The rain shower had excellent water pressure and temperature control. As for cleanliness, it was good, however the aging tiles took the shine off a little. Toiletries were of high quality and replenished daily, including body wash, lotion, and shampoo from a reputable brand. The towels were soft, fluffy, and plentiful—three large bath towels and two hand towels, more than enough for our stay.
Restaurants
Hilton Doha The Pearl offers several dining options. Having only the opportunity to spend one night, I opted for the more low-key tavern-style offering, Mulberry Tavern. This is a the usual UAE take on a sports bar with fun music, low lighting, multiple TV screens and a pub-grub menu.
The service was on point—attentive without being overbearing—and the food arrived promptly. The ambience is nice, with a soft glow from the lighting and good background music.
I opted for the happy hour offer which was a (very decent) burger and pint of Heineken for 99 QAR (£20) which I though was excellent value for money.
Breakfast
Breakfast at Hilton Doha The Pearl was served buffet-style in the main restaurant – The Kitchen. I went down around 9 am, and while it was busy, it wasn’t overcrowded. buffet was extensive, with both Western and Middle Eastern options, as well as healthy choices like fresh fruit, yoghurts, and smoothies. The quality of the food was great, particularly the pastries and freshly-baked bread. There wasn’t any alcohol at breakfast, but they had a lovely selection of juices and freshly brewed coffee.
There was also an a la carte offer which was included in the breakfast offering. I opted of poached eggs on Avocado toast, and it didn’t disappoint.
Pool
The pool are was serene. There were plenty of sunbeds and cabanas, and there was never an issue getting one.
The pool itself boats La Pergola, which is an al fresco restaurant serving salads and sandwiches, smoothies etc. It is shaded which provides a nice respite from the baking Arabian sun!
It also boasts a jacuzzi style area, with sunken subbed and water jets, which all helps you top up that tan without getting too hot.
The swim-up bar is a nice way to spend half an hour, and their selection of cold drinks, juices and iced coffees really hit the spot!
Staff Overall
The staff throughout the hotel were consistently friendly and keen to help. Whether it was the housekeeping staff or the restaurant servers, everyone seemed genuinely happy to assist.
Summary
Hilton Doha The Pearl certainly delivers on luxury, with a sleek, modern property, attentive staff, and a great location. It’s perfect for a mix of leisure and business, and for the cost, the service and amenities are above and beyond. Whether you’re there for a short stay or a week-long holiday, it’s a great-value option in Doha’s hotel scene
